being used and using them back

So a couple months ago My district manager called me at work to tell me I should apply for this position at a newly opening store in Conway, NH. The position would be a step up from where I am now as well as a decent pay increase and superior bonus potential over the same position at one of the other stores. It being a new store makes bonus percentages start earlier. A week or so later I had an interview with the would-be new manager. He came up from Maryland to open the store. And he noted that he know clue towards our pricing practices in the Northeast.

The Northeast is the moneymaker, while the south is more about volume. So after giving some examples of pricing for customer X on products 1,2 and 3, we talked about the position and I menetioned the notebook I have with all the new commercial accounts and sales calls, etc I’ve done within the past year in it, but that I had left it in my truck. I was more than willing to go get it but he said it wouldn’t be nessary since he had talked to my previous managers, my current and my sales rep about me and knows my abilities and history with the company. I showed him some new tricks in regards to account information via the computer system and assured him I would have no problem moving when it deems time.

A few weeks passed and I tried to get in contact with my DM about the position, I had heard nothing since the interview. A week or so after I had first attempted to contact him he returned my call to tell me he had no new information as of late. So i waited another couple weeks and tried again this time my DM told me there were new applicants being interviewed.

This triggered a bit of confusion on my part due to the job having been posted twice and no one had applied except me and now there were new applicants from other divisions. Another couple weeks passed and I, again, made the attempt to gain new information and phone tag ensued until we finally got a hold of eachother last monday (11/20, keep in mind i interviewed for this on 9/13) and i was told that they had selected another candidate, a paint contrator at that, for the job over me.

I have no problem with being passed up for a positon, but during the initial interviews with both my DM and the new manager I was told they were looking for someone with experience in the a store and a strong ability to run the computer systems since it was a new store and the manager would be absent a majority of the time out driving in sales. So, my issue here is that how can a painter know the computer system and store procedures better than I, who has worked for the company for three (+/-) years now and in five different stores filling in when needed.

This is let down number eight. Eight times in the past year where I applied, interviewed and was not selected for the position. Most of the other attempts the reasoning was that they went with the candidate that knew the client el and the area. So when the position a positions opened at a store I had already worked at (Windham) i called my DM and tried to get my foot in the door. This is when he informed me that they would be placing an MTP in the spot.

An MTP is a manager in training, AKA a college grad who they train in a store for six weeks then toss in a store. So where is the logic here? I have experience with the company, the store, the area and the customer base for that position, but shot down yet again. This is when he told me about the Conway position.

The moral of the story? Find a new job. And so I have started the search.
